Apophysis 3D Blooms Tutorial by lindelokse Apophysis 3D Blooms Tutorial by lindelokse
I've received a huge number of requests in these latest months so here is the 3d version of my 2d Apophysis Blooms Tutorial  this is my contribution (hopefully not the only one ;) ) to #projecteducate fractal week!!!
I tried to keep it the easiest I could and avoid xaos and such... but please mind that a basic knowledge of Apophysis is required. If you need some beginners' tutorial to get more familiar with the program or if you have a generic question about Apophysis, please send me a note, pay a visit to the #Aposhack chatroom or check these FAQ before ;)

I would like to thank and credit some friends who greatly helped me:
~muzucya for inspiring me with his lovely flame TSUKUYOMIBANA yokogaio
`Xyrus02 and ~zy0rg for helping me to refine my 3d blooms and fixing my mistakes
*DothackersDaichi =fractal2cry =ChaosFissure ~Wi6791lly and `FarDareisMai for beta-testing the tutorial

:bulletred: yes, you can publish it on your website as long as you don't edit the original jpeg and credit is provided to me :)
:bulletred: yes, I usually give permission to translate it in your language, just please let me know where you publish it so that I can check if credits to me are provided, and it would be great if you could send to me a preview before :)
:bulletred: no, I'd really prefer if you don't publish scripts based on this tutorial. If you really want to, then please ASK ME BEFORE :please:

All that you need:
:bulletred: Apophysis 7x by `Xyrus02
:bulletred: in the Aposhack Plugin Pack you will find all the plugins you need. Just don't put all plugins in your plugins folder at once, or apophysis will crash ;)
:bulletred: my 2d Apophysis Blooms Tutorial (which you may want to try before this one :) )

UPDATE: in Apophysis 7X version 15C, you will have to add flatten=1 to transform1, or nothing will appear!

HAVE FUN :squee:!!!

I think you will get of lot of feedback for this and never read my comment. But just wanted to inform you that I have created the possiblity to create solid objects (in real) of those, here is an example:…
(Materials shown are steel, plastic and sandstone)

many thanks for this ! they look really nice!
are you able to print any 3d shape from flame parameters?
thargor6 Featured By Owner Sep 29, 2014
There is still trial-and-error involved, but from the theoretical point of view you could create a 3D-model of most flames with my software.
But there are certain "real-world-parameters" like thickness of walls, distribution of holes, material, size, etc. which prevent most of them from 3d-printing.
The flame should resemble some "solid" (and sharp) shape in order to get good results. But there is still an unlimited number of possibilities :-)
And it is great fun to have it finally on your table. I think the fun is even greater than in the case of Mandelbuld3D-params because flame-fractals are usually constructed from scratch, the MB3D-shapes are more found by trial and error (IMHO). So it is actually creating something real cool from scratch :-)

Hi, I love your tutorial but in Apophysis 7 for some reason I still just have a circle with noise.  I am new to this but followed your tutorial to a T and lol blaa nothing.  Is there some setting that is causing this?  I noticed when I tried to create another flame it didn't show up either.  I used the flatten in transform 1 nothing changed.

Can you find a way to make Style 2 without pre_circlecrop? Since in the latest version(Apophysis 7X 16) I use pre_circlecrop from the aposhack plugin pack and it's not detected. Sorry if this question already answered before.

What version of Apophysis 7X did you use?  The only one I can find available is Apophysis 7X
lindelokse Featured By Owner Nov 25, 2013   Digital Artist
I use Apophysis 7x 15B, but I don't know if you can still find it on the web, so maybe you can just use the one you have or the one you can get from here…
Remember that the most recent versions have automatic 3d enabled so you have to add flatten to the blur transforms to get a visible flame.

ElleShaped Featured By Owner May 12, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
Just wanted to drop another comment to let you know I've been playing with this style a lot recently. I almost feel competent enough to make something worth posting... maybe. If I can get over my hyper-self-criticalness.

This is a lot of fun, and in playing with it I've also gotten a much better idea of how Apo works in general.
psyviant Featured By Owner May 3, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist

Here's my result. It looks waaay more high tech than a beautiful flower. But I like it somehow :)
